Art is a Mirror for the Soul, Let Imagination Flow Freely

Ever Since I was old enough to hold a pencil, I've been scribbling on anything I could get my hands on. Paper, walls, people - you name it, I've tried it. Art has always been more than just a hobby to me. It's a state of mind and a means of self-reflection. I've always loved how art can tell a story and communicate a message to whoever is looking at it. I became mesmerised by the use of symbolism and storytelling very early in my creative journey. I love how I can show the same image to any two people, and that image would tell them a different version of the story, each picking up on different subtle nuances. The story that we all see when we look at a piece gives us an opportunity to use our imaginations and to learn something about ourselves. Why is it that we perceive this image in this way?

I believe art is a mirror for the soul, for our experiences and for society. Using it to express that which cannot be described with words is a very fulfilling practice. Before I was even 10 years old, I had a host of challenging and unexpected experiences unfold in my life. Experiences that allowed me the opportunity to step out of my own shoes and view the world through a different perspective. I find myself inspired and fascinated by all of the different stories and cultures of the world. There is an infinite list of possibilities that lies within each and every person on this earth, within each and every community. At its core, I believe that humanity is beautiful and that we are all deeply loving and spiritual beings. This perspective informs a lot of my work. As well as this, I am endlessly fascinated by the innovation and beauty of nature. Isn't it incredible how perfectly harmonious everything is by design? Everything lies in a delicate balance, a dance of life. The loss of the smallest seemingly insignificant insect can lead to the end of an entire food chain. The complexity and abundance of all life on earth is a source of endless inspiration to me.

With my work, I want to inspire my viewers to reconnect with nature and their own raw humanity. With art, I invite you all to explore your imagination, which is as vast as the magnificent cosmos above.

In my time working as a freelancer, I've worked with dozens of clients on various different projects ranging from stand-alone artworks, to murals and book illustrations. The thing that I enjoy the most about my freelance work is stepping into my client's shoes, unpicking the story they want to tell and helping them bring their imagination to life. Being able to take a blank canvas and transform it into the landscape of imagination is a truly meaningful practice.

I think everyone should take time to explore their own creative expression. Whether that be with music, art, the written word or even cooking. Tapping into your innovative mind and letting ideas flow freely is such an important part of being human. Throughout time, creativity helps us all to become more introspective, and to better understand the world around us and our own experiences.

To grow and become good at any skill, we all must challenge ourselves to get out of our comfort zones and try new things. Every incredible artist that you admire has walked the path of adversity and put real time and consistency into their practice. Allowing for mistakes, short comings and frustrating moments. Success is built upon countless failures and with every failed attempt, we are presented with an opportunity to learn and adjust. Eventually, we find ourselves effortlessly spilling our imaginations onto the page. But even then we still continue to learn and grow.

I love to connect with other artists and build a community of people who can inspire each other to unlock our individual style and confidence as creatives. In May 2021, I plan to begin my YouTube channel, where I hope to build that very community and to help my fellow artists be inspired to unlock their creativity. I want to share my journey as I continue to grow and use my experiences to educate. If you would like to join me on this journey, visit my website: www.OliviaChevallier.art to view my original works, see links to my various social media and be an early subscriber to my YouTube Channel. I look forward to seeing some of you there and building a community,
